POKOTABI / Nomisuke Yasu
呑み助 やす
At Nomisuke Yasu in Kasai, enjoy thoughtfully prepared Japanese fare—from sashimi platters delivered straight from Misaki Port to menchi-katsu and braised kakuni made with Ai Kenko pork—paired with a wide selection of drinks.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
The sight of glistening sashimi slices and steam rising from freshly fried plates is enough to set the tone for an evening drink. Located in Kasai, Nomisuke Yasu is a Japanese izakaya where diners can settle in over reliable cooking made from quality ingredients and a well-rounded drink list.
A natural first order is the assorted sashimi platter, prepared with fresh seafood shipped directly from Misaki Port. Seasonal cuts procured daily—including Pacific bluefin tuna, yellowtail, and shime saba (cured mackerel)—are carefully sliced and arranged across the plate in colorful variety. Alongside fish, the kitchen's other signature feature is meat dishes using Ai Kenko pork, a branded pork raised in Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture. Crisp menchi-katsu with a juicy interior and tender kakuni braised pork belly packed with deep savory flavor go just as well with a bowl of rice as with cold beer.
The wide variety of drinks available to accompany the food is another central part of the experience. Draft Ichiban Shibori beer and highballs anchor the lineup alongside genuine shochu such as Tomino Hozan and Nakanaka, plus a selection of notable sakes served by the single-cup go measure that changes daily. Bottles of Japanese wine like Koshu Blanc and fruit liqueurs provide further options, making it simple to find a pairing for whichever snack catches your eye. Nibbling on small bites like ume suisho (sour plum cartilage) or spicy clam changja while refilling your cup keeps the visit unhurried and relaxed.
The dining space features both counter seating well suited for solo diners and tables, all under calm, subdued lighting. With comforting meal-closers like dashi chazuke with salmon or mentaiko and grilled rice balls readily available, the tavern accommodates everything from long evening gatherings to a simple weeknight dinner on the way home from work.
